The Grand Hotel

171 Kent St W

THEN

The Grand Hotel was but one of many hotels located in Lindsay; there were once nine hotels located in a town with a population of forty-five hundred to five thousand people!

The Grand Hotel played host to colourful characters and one such person was Alexander Dunsmuir, a millionaire and consummate drunkard who lived for five years in the hotel during the mid to late 1800s. He would pay the barkeep (or barkeeps if there were two) $50 each a night to keep the bar open until daybreak.

NOW

The Grand Hotel (later the Grand Experience or simply The Grand) has been one of Lindsay Downtown’s longstanding staple businesses with a presence on Kent Street West since 1860 - that's before Canada’s birthday!

It was to everyone in the local community's great dismay that The Grand Experience closed its doors on August 31st, 2020.

Anyone you ask in Lindsay Downtown is sure to have more than one great memory of The Grand!
